LOS ANGELES, CA – From the world stage of the Olympics and NBA championships to the cosmic stage of life and death, former Miami Heat center Alonzo Mourning will share his poignant story of survival as the keynote speaker for Crenshaw Christian Center’s (CCC) Spring Fling Family Fellowship at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 25th in the FaithDome located at 7901 S. Vermont Ave. in Los Angeles. The event is free and open to the public.

A new author, Mourning has penned a memoir titled “Resilience: Faith, Focus, Triumph.” “Resilience” tells Mourning’s story of how he went from foster care, to studying his way onto Georgetown University’s Deans List, to battling his way into superstar status in the NBA, to his ultimate challenge – being diagnosed with a rare degenerative kidney disease, Focal Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). Mourning vowed to turn his crisis into an opportunity to help raise awareness about the disease; consequently, a kidney donor came forward to help him.

“Mr. Mourning’s story “Resilience” is about fighting the good fight of faith,” said Pastor Frederick K. Price Jr., the Head Pastor of CCC. “He encountered a defining moment in his life when he was diagnosed with FSGS. By facing this life-threatening disease with faith and compassion, he was able to triumph and experience resilience at its best!”

“I believe his testimony will inspire everyone and we’re looking forward to people coming out and showing him their support at his first faith-based book signing on the West Coast.” The theme for CCC’s Spring Fling Family Fellowship is “Our Year of Change.” The purpose of the event is to help people to realize that being resilient begins with a personal commitment to faith, focus and triumphing.

The day will kick off with Pastor Price Jr. in a one-on-one with Mourning from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. That session will stream live at www.faithdome.org. The conference will break for lunch and a book signing with Mourning from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm. Mourning’s book will be offered at a 15% presale discount between April 8 – 24th at CCC’s book store.

Mourning will address the youth in a special session after lunch. There will be additional breakout sessions designed for men, women and seniors, concluding at 3:30 pm. For more information, call CCC at (323) 758-3777 or visit the website at www.faithdome.org.
